Members make monthly or annual donations at levels they can afford and have access to members-only meetings and social gatherings. Your guide to BRJE membership

Our membership program is a way to grow grassroots power and increase impact while building organizational stability so we can do this work for years to come. BRJE members join a like-minded community of equity champions in Brookline.

By making a donation of any amount, you become a BRJE member. You’ll receive an email confirming your membership and automatically be added to our members-only mailing list.

Members receive exclusive benefits. You’ll get access to special members-only events, participate in special town halls, and so much more. you As a member, you’re also investing in the training, organizing, tech, policy work and most importantly the people that make this possible. 

Members will have more opportunities through members-only events and town halls to provide input into our priorities and strategy. And as an anti-racism organization, we take those priorities very seriously. As a nonprofit, all final decisions about our strategy must be approved by our Board of Directors, which is and always will be majority BIPOC.

You are a dues-paying member for 12 months from the day you make your membership gift. We’ll send you a reminder when it’s time to renew your membership.

A donation of any size gets you a 12-month BRJE membership. While an average donation of $250 per member per year will sustain BRJE as a 100% member-supported organization, we want everyone passionate about racial justice to join our community, regardless of means.

Yes – we have organizational membership opportunities for both nonprofit and business partners. Reach out to us directly if you’re interested in learning more about organizational membership and its benefits.

As an anti-racist organization, we’re aware that many of the harmful power systems we see in the world are also in our nonprofit organizations. One such system is the tendency to prioritize the ideas and wants of large donors, which takes power away from the people most proximate to the problems we’re trying to solve. A membership model gives everyone an equal stake in this work, and provides equitable opportunities for input into our priorities.

Yes – many nonprofits have membership programs to help ensure equity and build community power. Nationally, organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU rely on membership to fuel their work. Here in Brookline, our own Mothers Out Front is using this approach to advance sustainability using eco-friendly sustainable people-power.

As an organization committed to community-centric fundraising, we affirm that every person strengthening our community and work is a key partner. We also acknowledge the systems of racism and oppression we seek to dismantle have disproportionately and negatively impacted many community members’ access to resources and opportunity, which can preclude traditional donations.
