Brookline for Racial Justice & Equity (BRJE) is launching a paid fellowship for three Brookline high school students (Dec 2025 to May 2026). Fellows will help grow BRJE’s membership and support community-driven racial justice work in town. Each fellow will be matched with one primary focus area from the options below, based on interest. Fellows will meet regularly with BRJE staff both in-person and remotely, and gain hands-on experience in community organizing and nonprofit work.

Timeline & Commitment

  • December 2025 through May 2026 (aligned with the BHS calendar)
  • 5–7 hours per week at $17/hour
  • Mix of independent work and check-ins with BRJE staff
  • Occasional evenings or weekends for community events

Fellowship Focus Areas

Storytelling & Media Focus

  • Research local policy issues in Brookline (housing, schools, policing, immigrant protections) for the BRJE newsletter.
  • Learn how we do outreach using email and SMS (who we contact, why, and when).
  • Help track and analyze outreach data and engagement.

  • Help us understand what matters most to students (ex: short polls/surveys or listening sessions)

Shared Opportunities

Fellows will work closely with Executive Director Raul Fernandez and BRJE staff, participate in community events and membership meetings, and may occasionally observe board discussions. You’ll build relationships with local organizers, activists, and Town Meeting Members; and gain experience you can list on college, scholarship, and job applications.

Applicants can send a brief email stating their interest (no resume required), and we will email you back with an interview link!
