There is power in numbers!

Can we count on you to stand with us?

When you join BRJE, you’re part of a growing movement demanding racial justice in Brookline.

What membership means:

  • No fees. No dues. Just your pledge.
  • Your name adds power to our collective voice.
  • Members help decide what BRJE organizes around.

Membership in BRJE isn’t symbolic – it’s how we win.

Some of our recent work:

  1. Schools: We’re fighting to support racial equity initiatives, address opportunity gaps, and keep police out of schools. We raised $188,000 to preserve critical DEI infrastructure in our schools and continue to fight for a robust approach to educational equity.
  2. Immigration: We raised nearly $10,000 for local frontline organizations that protect immigrants and provide active response to ICE detentions. We have held a bystander training and hosted Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell to speak in Brookline.
  3. Housing: We’re fighting to make housing affordable and accessible.

Your guide to BRJE membership

Our membership program is a way to grow grassroots power and increase impact while building organizational stability so we can do this work for years to come. BRJE members join a like-minded community of equity champions in Brookline.

By pledging your name, you become a BRJE member. You’ll receive an email confirming your membership and automatically be added to our members-only mailing list.

Members will have more opportunities through members-only events and town halls to provide input into our priorities and strategy. And as an anti-racism organization, we take those priorities very seriously. As a nonprofit, all final decisions about our strategy must be approved by our Board of Directors, which is and always will be majority BIPOC.

No fees. No dues. Just your pledge.

As a community centered organization, we affirm that every person is a key partner in the movement for racial justice. We also acknowledge the systems of racism and oppression we seek to dismantle have disproportionately and negatively impacted many community members’ access to resources and opportunity, which can preclude traditional paid membership models.

Racial justice is a lifelong mission and commitment — no renewal necessary.

Yes – we have organizational membership opportunities for both nonprofit and business partners. Reach out to us directly if you’re interested in learning more about organizational membership and its benefits.

As an anti-racist organization, we’re aware that many of the harmful power systems we see in the world are also in our nonprofit organizations. One such system is the tendency to prioritize the ideas and wants of large donors, which takes power away from the people most proximate to the problems we’re trying to solve. A membership model gives everyone an equal stake in this work, and provides equitable opportunities for input into our priorities.

Yes – many nonprofits have membership programs to help ensure equity and build community power. Nationally, organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU rely on membership to fuel their work. Here in Brookline, our own Mothers Out Front is using this approach to advance sustainability using eco-friendly sustainable people-power.
