Good Trouble Lives On Watch Party for Love, Joy and Power: Tools for Liberation
Date: Friday, July 17th
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Location: United Parish in Brookline
Description:
Please join Activist Evenings and Brookline For Racial Justice and Equity (BRJE) in kicking off Brookline’s Good Trouble Lives On weekend celebrating the life of John Lewis.
In 2020 and 2021 while Activist Evenings were sending hundreds of thousands of postcards to Georgia, Black Voters Matter was on the ground. This movie is about their work.
Love, Joy & Power (formerly Black Voters Matter) is a feature length documentary about the co-founders of the Black Voters Matter Fund, Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown, the work they do to empower African American communities especially in the rural south, and the crucial role they played in flipping Georgia from red to blue in the 2020 Presidential election and the 2021 Georgia Senate Runoffs as well as the numerous threats they faced.

James Baldwin Film Screening
Event: James Baldwin Film Screening: I Am Not Your Negro
Date: Sunday, August 2
Time: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Location: Coolidge Corner Theatre
Description: This August, BRJE is celebrating James Baldwin’s birthday with a 10th anniversary screening of I Am Not Your Negro at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. One of the most influential figures in the American civil rights movement, Baldwin’s words on race, power, and American identity feel as urgent now as when he first wrote them. The film was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards and won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary. This is a screening you don’t want to miss.
We are excited to introduce our post-screening panelists:
Dr. Kandice Sumner and Malcolm Cawthorne
