BRJE Privacy Policy
Brookline for Racial Justice & Equity (BRJE) values your trust and is committed to protecting your privacy. As a grassroots organization rooted in justice, transparency, and community care, we believe your information should be treated with the same respect and accountability that guide all of our work.
This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it secure. It applies to all interactions with BRJE — whether in person, via email, postal mail or checks, social media, or through our website.
Information We Collect and How We Use It
Our online and in-person forms may ask for information such as your name, email address, phone number, zip code, and interest areas (for example, housing, education, or policing). We collect this information to:
- Keep you informed about upcoming events, community actions, and campaigns
- Track participation in our membership program
- Improve our outreach and engagement strategies
- Respond to inquiries or requests for information
We do not collect or store sensitive personal data such as Social Security numbers.
We also do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — including your name, address, phone number, or email address — under any circumstances.
If you provide your email address, you may receive messages from BRJE about campaigns, events, volunteer opportunities, or updates from our team. You can unsubscribe or update your preferences at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in our emails or by contacting us directly.
Membership
When you sign up as a BRJE member, your information may be stored in our secure databases (Action Network, Little Green Light, and Mailchimp). These platforms allow us to communicate with you and coordinate community actions. All integrations between these tools are protected through encrypted connections and access controls.
You may also choose to provide your phone number when signing up. This is completely optional and used only to share important action opportunities. Action Network, the platform we use to collect this information, does not sell, rent, or share phone numbers and follows strict data-protection and anti-spam standards.
Website
Most of our website can be visited without submitting personal information. When you interact with certain pages (for example, signing a petition, joining as a member, or registering for an event), you may be asked to voluntarily enter your contact information. This information is collected only when you choose to provide it and is used solely to strengthen our organizing efforts and better serve our community.
We also automatically collect non-identifying technical information such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, and the pages you visit. This data helps us improve website performance and understand engagement trends but is not linked to personally identifiable information.
Cookies
We may use “cookies” to improve your experience on our site. Cookies help remember your preferences and improve site functionality. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies if you prefer. However, some parts of our website may not function properly if cookies are disabled.
Financial Transactions
We are deeply grateful for every contribution made to support BRJE’s work for racial justice in Brookline. If you choose to make a donation or contribution to BRJE, financial information (such as credit card or bank details) is used only to complete that specific transaction. We do not store your credit card information. All financial data transmitted electronically is handled through secure, encrypted systems, and paper records containing financial information are securely destroyed after processing.
Security
BRJE uses industry-standard high encryption security measures. We go to great lengths to protect the confidentiality and integrity of any personal information you share with us over the Internet.
BRJE takes any and all reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access or disclosure. We use secure encryption protocols (such as SSL) for online forms and transactions processed through our third-party platforms. Although no system can guarantee 100% security, we are committed to maintaining strong safeguards and promptly addressing any potential issues.
Changes to This Policy
BRJE reserves the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time.
Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “last revised” date.
