Lessons & Legacies: An Intergenerational Conversation on Justice and Resistance
Event Summary:
BRJE is hosting Lessons & Legacies: An Intergenerational Conversation on Justice and Resistance, a panel discussion bringing together community elders and young people, moderated by Executive Director Dr. Raul Fernandez.
Our elders have been through movements before. Our young people are living on the front lines right now. This is a chance to learn from both, in person. Bring a friend, or send this to someone who should come.
Event details:
Wednesday, May 6, 3:15–4:45pm
Brookline Senior Center, 93 Winchester St.
Senior Panelists:
Our senior panelists bring decades of lived experience from frontline civil rights activism in the Deep South, to coalition-building in the face of housing discrimination, to founding and sustaining LGBTQ+ community spaces. Between them, they have worked with organizations including SNCC and CORE, participated in Freedom Rider-era solidarity actions, demonstrated at city halls, and spent years building grassroots community for queer seniors.
Student Panelists:
The two student panelists are both seniors at Brookline High School. Between them, they bring experience in LGBTQ+ advocacy and trans student protections, educational equity for Black and Latino students, and global humanitarian issues. They lead student organizations including the Student Identity Protection Alliance, the UNICEF Club, and GSA, and are connected to programs like the African-American Latino Scholars Program and BRJE’s own Fellows program.
